Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Large Language Models (LLMs)
Authorship and Ethical Principles
PETIR: Jurnal Pengkajian dan Penerapan Teknik Informatika strictly follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines and national accreditation standards regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Generative AI tools and Large Language Models (such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, or similar technologies) cannot be credited as authors or co-authors. AI tools do not meet the criteria for authorship because they cannot take legal and ethical responsibility for the work, confirm the integrity of the data, or manage conflicts of interest.
Policy for Authors and Disclosure
Authors are permitted to utilize generative AI and AI-assisted technologies solely to assist in improving language readability, grammar, or formatting. Authors must not use AI to generate research results, analyze primary data, fabricate citations, or formulate scientific conclusions.
If generative AI or AI-assisted tools are used at any stage of manuscript preparation, authors are required to declare it transparently. A formal disclosure statement must be provided in a dedicated section titled "Declaration of Generative AI in Scientific Writing" immediately preceding the References. The statement must identify the specific tool used (including model name and version) and describe the purpose and scope of its application. Authors remain fully accountable for ensuring the original content, factual accuracy, and integrity of the entire manuscript.
Template Statement:
"During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) utilized [Tool Name, Version] for [specify purpose, e.g., improving language readability]. Following the use of this tool, the author(s) thoroughly reviewed and edited the content and assume full responsibility for the accuracy and originality of the published work."
Strict Prohibition for Peer Reviewers
In accordance with national accreditation technical guidelines, peer reviewers (Mitra Bestari) are strictly prohibited from using generative AI tools to evaluate manuscripts, generate review reports, or formulate decision recommendations. Furthermore, reviewers must not upload, paste, or expose submitted manuscripts, abstracts, figures, or research data into any third-party AI platforms. Doing so represents a direct violation of peer-review confidentiality and intellectual property rights.
Editorial Oversight and Decision-Making
The editorial board of PETIR: Jurnal Pengkajian dan Penerapan Teknik Informatika retains full human discretion over all editorial decisions, including manuscript acceptance, revision, and rejection. Automated AI tools must not be employed to replace scholarly editorial judgment. Editors are strictly bound to uphold submission confidentiality and will not input unpublished manuscripts into public AI tools. The journal reserves the right to reject submissions or issue retractions if unauthorized, unethical, or deceptive AI use is identified.
